Executive Summary

It is now widely accepted that mankind’s consumption of energy has contributed significantly to the emission of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) into the atmosphere. In particular the burning of fossil fuels to create electricity. CO₂ forms a ‘blanket’ in the atmosphere, which effectively traps heat and leads to the excessive warming of the planet. A significant amount of energy is required to liquefy Nitrogen and to manufacture and transport the containment bottles. Increasingly, businesses are looking to generate gaseous nitrogen on site from their compressed air supply. Not only does this save energy, but also provides sizeable lifetime cost savings.

Sustainability is also a critical issue. It is calculated that, at current usage of resources, we would need 1.8 Earths. Many Companies now have ESG Policies (Environmental, Social and Governance), which commit their businesses to operate in a sustainable manner. The bottles to contain Nitrogen will be manufactured in their thousands. Any process which removes this manufacturing requirement must make a small but tangible contribution to a sustainable use of materials.
