THE BRIEF:
To supply a hydraulic power unit to be used in Babcock’s S80 submarine projects.
the concept
After discussions with the Defence Systems Technology (DST) team at Ashton Gate, Bristol, we have managed to secure the first quote for the supply of a Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) to Babcock International, one of our longest standing Marine customers.
The HPU is for use for the flushing rigs used on the S80 submarine projects for Babcock International customers in Spain. We also provided cooler and chiller units to suit the environmental conditions – designed to compliment high flow, high temperature systems and environments.

the outcome
Working on this project allowed us to collaborate with another Fluid Power Group member within our organisation to facilitate the delivery of a HPU designed specifically for flushing systems. Their specialised knowledge of flushing systems brought a very useful value-added tool to all parties involved and contributed to the great success of the project.
Three of the most important factors in delivering this project were quality, timescales and competitive pricing. Derek Lane & Co are delighted to have delivered on all three counts for Babcock.
